Connie B.
Private tutor in Punta Gorda, FL
Education
BA Chemistry, Purdue University JD Law, Indiana University
Experience
I have tutored over 100 students in the last 10 years, most of them for several months. The subjects I am able to tutor are diverse due to my having BA in Chemistry, which requires a thorough understanding of mathematics, and a JD in Law, which requires an advanced grasp of language and writing skills. My knowledge of Spanish comes from my funny Mexican husband and his family, and the 2 years I taught English (but learned even more Spanish) in Mexico. I also taught ESL in Indiana for 5 years.

Hobbies
I got a degree in chemistry because I just had a knack for it, and also had the best high school chemistry teacher in the world. With his help, I landed a co-op with Eli Lilly and Co., which I completed in three years. Shocked that graduation day finally arrived, I wasn't sure what to do with my degree. I had a diploma, a high GPA (3.6), probably a confused look on my face, and no desire to leave the classroom! So, I applied to law school. Let me be clear, I got a law degree because I wanted to be in school, not to be a lawyer. But what better thing to learn than what lawyers know? My true love is teaching, but it turns out one can earn more delivering pizzas, as David Sedaris so correctly points out in my favorite book, "Me Talk Pretty One Day." This is why I'm better suited for tutoring. It allows me to make teaching interesting and fun for the student, and to personalize the approach to suit that particular student's needs, rather than sacrifice quality to the demands of classroom management and school politics.
